Tocaio, formerly known as Tapes, is an ambient / electronic project created by Hector Carlos Ramirez. Tocaio began in the winter of 2015, releasing an 8 track self-titled EP that draws inspiration from early 90s hip hop and electronic, incorporating sampled beats with live guitar creating a mix of soundscapes.

Taking a different approach with the new name, Tocaio is now focused on creating a similar atmosphere but without the use of samples. Instead, Ramirez composes, performs, and arranges every sound, utilizing a wide range of instruments to create intricate design.

Tocaio’s tracks are given new breadth and depth each time they are performed live. The live setup consists of Ramirez switching off between live looping guitar, bass guitar, synthesizers, and drum pads, to build the tracks live, and is usually accompanied with a live drummer.

To date, Tocaio has released 2 singles (from the debut LP, Pointillism) and 2 remixes: Indigo & Bonfire + Remixes.

Tocaio's new album, Pointillism, will be out in early winter.

“‘Organic electronic’ is the term that Austin, Texas native Carlos Ramirez uses to describe the music he creates as Tocaio. The music is a soothing and wonderfully ambient affair incorporating field recordings of crackling fires, delicate beats along with live instrumentation. In parts, it sounds like Vangelis with a soul.”        -Overblown

“TAPES is a hidden treasure that everyone should check out as the season becomes more ponderous and melancholy.” -XFDR
